PLEASE START US OFF BY INTRODUCING YOURSELF:
We are Misstep Studio, a tiny studio located in Spain. We are now only 11 persons who work remotely and we all come from different parts of Spain. We have the assistance of the incubator company Level Up. They assists us with game development formation, among other things such as legal guidance or ongoing advice.
TELL US ABOUT DEATH BY MISSTEP.
We wanted our videogame to be something unique. First and foremost, Death By Misstep is a cross-genre videogame that combines horror, rhythm and also stealth. Its story happens in a dystopian and cyberpunk world. The story is about our main character, Jessica, who is partying on a luxury cruise in the middle of the sea when all of the robots that maintain the ship begin killing every passenger. She needs to find a way out while also discovering why all of this is happening.
There isn't a single story about how this idea came to be because so many people contributed to it from the start.
HOW HAS THE DEVELOPMENT JOURNEY BEEN
The development has been quite an adventure, including the fact that the game was almost completely remade from scratch when we finally established our final development team, the one which has been in charge of bringing the game to reality. Today, we have a strong, close-knit team working to create something we love. At the beginning of the development.
WHICH GAME ENGINE DID YOU CHOOSE AND WHY?
We chose Unity Engine because many of the members of Misstep Studio already had experience with it, something that would make things easier.
WHAT'S BEEN YOUR BIGGEST DEVELOPMENT HURDLE SO FAR?
One of the most difficult challenges we had was trying to remake the game while adhering to the original concept. This was difficult at first because combining horror and rhythm is something not common at all. In fact, a lot of people would tell you that they are opposites. Even so we stuck with that idea because we wanted it to work with our development reboot. Now we're glad we chose that option since we were able to make that concept work by modifying the entire design to something we like and are more comfortable with.
ADVICE FOR FELLOW DEVS?
Of course. Make a game you're passionate about! There's nothing worse than working on something you don't enjoy. Investigate, be creative, enjoy every step of the developing process and take breaks as needed. Videogames are fantastic and creating them should be just as exciting.
ANY FINAL THOUGHTS?
