PLEASE START US OFF BY INTRODUCING YOURSELF:

My name is Falestress, Alexandre. I am an independent game designer and I develop small games. This year, I left my job as Lead Game Designer of a team of 10-20 people, I worked on several games.

Now I have time to work on small projects with friends

TELL US ABOUT GACHA FEVER.

Gacha Fever is a bullet heaven/survivor-like game set in a very cute and colorful universe.

To try to stand out from other survivor-likes, we’ve added a Gacha system (free) tied to the progression system, as well as a crafting system and reward path choices.

HOW HAS THE DEVELOPMENT JOURNEY BEEN

We started Gacha Fever during a game jam, Ludum Dare 54. We had so much fun making it that we decided to continue and expand the concept into a full game.

Ilona was absolutely set on this art style, and I was determined to make a vampire survivor-like game because I love RPGs, balancing in Excel sheets, and hack 'n' slash games.

Elodie took care of the music, which turned out great.

WHICH GAME ENGINE DID YOU CHOOSE AND WHY?

We developed it in Unity because we’re very comfortable with it.

WHAT'S BEEN YOUR BIGGEST DEVELOPMENT HURDLE SO FAR?

The biggest development challenge? I’d say communication/marketing. It’s not our field, and we’re trying to handle it ourselves, which is quite tricky

Especially since we don’t have much time to dedicate to it.

ADVICE FOR FELLOW DEVS?

The most important piece of advice I can give, and something we also need to improve on, is that communication and marketing are crucial. Unfortunately, you have to devote a lot of time and care to that part.

Networking, talking to other devs, making contacts—as someone who’s quite introverted and stays in my own bubble, I definitely need to get better at this.

Sometimes it opens doors, like participating in bundles on Steam, or just getting advice and feedback from other devs finding bugs with the bosses, particularly with their appearances.
