PLEASE START US OFF BY INTRODUCING YOURSELF:
My name is Leonardo Pedroso, I’m 22 years old, Brazilian, and games have always been a part of my life. I’ve always wanted to work on creating something, and after learning programming, I immediately started studying game development. I’ve been working in the game industry for a little over two years now, and I really enjoy narrative and horror games.
TELL US ABOUT AU REVOIR
My current project is Au Revoir, a retro cyberpunk point-and-click game. The idea for the game came about during a Digital Games college at PUCPR. It was a narrative-focused class, and we really liked the outcome of the first version. So, we spent the last year working to finish it and launch it on Steam. We currently have a demo there and are planning to release the full game in the coming months.
HOW HAS THE DEVELOPMENT JOURNEY BEEN
he game has changed a lot since the first version. The entire script was rewritten and expanded. The project team has also grown, and everyone is a student from the university.
WHICH GAME ENGINE DID YOU CHOOSE AND WHY?
The game is being developed in Unity because it’s what the team is most familiar with, and in my case, I’ve already worked with it before.
WHAT'S BEEN YOUR BIGGEST DEVELOPMENT HURDLE SO FAR?
I’d say marketing and actually finishing the project have been the biggest hurdles. Selling your own game is a challenge on its own; I feel like we are improving in this, but it takes a lot of time and planning. And finishing a game is always hard. There’s always something more to do or improve, but I feel like we are slowly getting there.
ADVICE FOR FELLOW DEVS?
I would say finding people who support you (whether directly involved in the project or not) is important. The games industry is tough to work in with stability. I would recommend finding a secondary source of income and focusing on studying the field before jumping in.
ANY FINAL THOUGHTS?
It's never too late to learn how to make games; it’s always a lot of fun to bring an idea to life, and I encourage anyone who enjoys games to give game development a try.
