PLEASE START US OFF BY INTRODUCING YOURSELF:

Hi, we are Regular Studio, a small indie studio located in the countryside of Brazil. We are two brothers making absolutely everything, it’s crazy and chaotic, but it’s very fun. MotorSlice is our second big project.

TELL US ABOUT MOTORSLICE.

MotorSlice came to life as a result of our previous game, Togges. It’s everything we learned from our first experience making a game, and addressing everything that went wrong.

Since day one we knew we wanted to make a game inspired by a beloved franchise, and with a striking art direction.

Once we decided which game we would create, it was all about answering questions. As we decided to go with the Prince of Persia franchise, it was all about finding our solutions, while having the same level of appeal:

POP has an iconic setting, middle-east fantasy - Ours is a post-apocalyptic Megastructure.

POP has the time manipulation as the main gimmick - Ours is the chainsaw.

POP has the sand motif - Ours is heavy machines

And so on… You get the idea.

HOW HAS THE DEVELOPMENT JOURNEY BEEN

It's been fun, for the most part. As you know, gamedev has its ups and downs, but overall, is a delight to work in the game. The game foundation is solid and our pipeline works great for us, which makes a smooth development.

WHICH GAME ENGINE DID YOU CHOOSE AND WHY?

We are using Unreal Engine 5, which allows us to use retro aesthetics with pixelated textures and low poly models, and combine with modern rendering techniques such as Lumen.

WHAT'S BEEN YOUR BIGGEST DEVELOPMENT HURDLE SO FAR?

It’s been fitting marketing/PR with game’s development. Talking about the game and keeping up with things takes sooooooooooo much time and effort. You need to talk about the game, but you also need to focus and finish the game. Also, spreading the word about the game is very difficult, but every indie dev knows that.

Besides that, the bosses are the hardest part of the game, by far. It’s a culmination of a lot of things happening at the same time, while moving.

It 's… Difficult.

ADVICE FOR FELLOW DEVS?

Create a solid foundation, and everything will be easy from there. With a solid foundation and clear direction, you won't have any struggle. And most importantly, you won’t change the project mid-development.

Know your limitations and make smart decisions using them to your advantage, not the other way around.

ANY FINAL THOUGHTS?

- Be honest with people and yourself… If everyone did this, the game industry would be a lot cooler, just like the games we make.

And don’t forget to wishlist MotorSlice on Steam -
