PLEASE START US OFF BY INTRODUCING YOURSELF:
Hi! I'm Pitxardo, software developer during the day, and a hobbyist game developer during the night with two games launched on Android and thousands of prototypes created.
TELL US ABOUT PLANETARY LIFE.
Planetary Life is a simulation game about planets, evolution and life.
You will be able to play and evolve life from cells to plants, animals or civilizations.
Also, you have full control of a simulated procedural planet.
The idea comes out from a very old game called SimEarth.
When I discovered the game I was fasctinated and for a long time I thought why nobody was doing something similar.
Also, I was a big fan of the incredible E3 demo of Spore, but got a bit dissapointed with the fantasy approach the game took after release.
So, I decided to made a modern version of SimEarth where the creatures were not predefined animals, so I added the procedural generation of Spore and some others ideas into this game formula.
HOW HAS THE DEVELOPMENT JOURNEY BEEN
The development journey was fast at the beginning, right now is a bit slower because the project is getting bigger and I'm still adding new features.
Also, I'm doing this as a hobby at the same time I work in a full time job.
WHICH GAME ENGINE DID YOU CHOOSE AND WHY?
I use Godot.
The main reason is because I love the node philosophy of the engine, how lightweight it is and because I'm quite familiar with it.
WHAT'S BEEN YOUR BIGGEST DEVELOPMENT HURDLE SO FAR?
First, balancing my energies between my full time job and this project.
In terms of tech, making everything work in a real spherical world. A lot of maths involved there!
