"Luthier" is the game I've been dreaming about. Around 6-7 years ago, when I had no idea what game development was, playing Brutal Legend inspired me to dream of such a game. Luthier is essentially an action roguelike management game. We venture into dungeons to gather materials, use these materials to craft guitars, and then sell them. With the money earned, we upgrade our character and access dungeons with better materials.
The development process began when I participated in a Jam, where I designed a combat mechanic for the first time. It was quite simple, but I wondered if I could develop it further and use it in Luthier. My goal was to create a fast and satisfying combat experience.
I'm developing my game on the Unity engine, primarily because it uses C# and is lightweight.
I'm a solo developer, which means I have to do everything myself or purchase what I need—marketing, 3D models, coding, 2D assets, and so on. I'm currently not working a full-time job, and I'm spending my small savings on essential assets.
If you're making your game alone, you need to avoid burnout. Whenever you start to feel bad or bored, take a break! Watch some anime or do something else. Burnout is a risk we cannot afford.
Persistence, passion, and proper self-care are crucial in this journey. Embrace the challenges, celebrate the small victories, and keep pushing forward. Your dream game is within reach.
