PLEASE START US OFF BY INTRODUCING YOURSELF:

Hello! I'm the game designer and founder of Kibou Entertainment, the team behind Timothy and the Mysterious Forest DX

TELL US ABOUT LIGHT: PATH OF THE ARCHMAGE

The original game (released in 2019) was our very first released commercial game, but was "limited" due to our lack of budget back in time and our lack of experience. We decided to remake the game putting inside everything we couldn't put in the original version: more mechanics, better combat, more enemies and complete graphics restyle. Basically, it's a new game with the original concept! Our main inspirations are Zelda Link's Awakening DX for Game Boy Color, Dark Souls, Metal Gear (before the Solid franchise) and Banjo-Kazooie for Nintendo 64

HOW HAS THE DEVELOPMENT JOURNEY BEEN

We have currently prepared a tech demo for internal use and things are progressing very well!

WHICH GAME ENGINE DID YOU CHOOSE AND WHY?

We chose Unity for its adaptability and portability on consoles. In reality we also chose it because it is the engine that our programmer uses best (LOL).

WHAT'S BEEN YOUR BIGGEST DEVELOPMENT HURDLE SO FAR?

Being in that "limbo" between the publishing contract (with consequential funds) and the earning from the past released games is always a strange feeling. Lucky for us, we are a team driven by pure passion and we're all work hard while waiting for the next contract to be signed.

ADVICE FOR FELLOW DEVS?

Keep a small scope: it's easy to get carried away by ideas, by thinking that putting in "many things" is an advantage, by spending the budget without reservations to guarantee incredible quality. Often "less is more" is an excellent advice. Do well the few excellent ideas you want to include, work around those and make your game without going beyond your possibilities. Players prefer a simple but well-polished game rather than a hodgepodge of features thrown in to make up the numbers

ANY FINAL THOUGHTS?

Making games is a way of life. Live your life, have fun developing games and keep an eye out for good chances. Often they are hidden in plain sight :D
