PLEASE START US OFF BY INTRODUCING YOURSELF:

I am David Vallieres, I'm a software engineer, I've been playing games since I was a kid.

Learned how to type by playing old Sierra adventure games, but quickly jumped to wolfenstein and doom.

TELL US ABOUT ALIEN BOOM BOOM.

Alien Boom Boom is an FPS game where you fight back against an Alien Invasion. It's meant to be somewhat silly with a lot of scifi tropes.

The main gameplay loop will be around utilizing slow mo or something like a bullet time amongst other abilities and weapon upgrades you unlock. It will be a smaller experience, about  5-6 levels, maybe 2-3 hours long.

The idea was just to build a full game and not worry too much about building something that revolutionized game design to allow me to focus on the harder skills of programming, art and sound/music etc. It's meant to be a first project that proves to myself I can build a full game as a solo dev.

HOW HAS THE DEVELOPMENT JOURNEY BEEN

I'm thinking about using Unreal Engine for my next project, but at the same time it's hard to give up so much Unity Experience.

WHICH GAME ENGINE DID YOU CHOOSE AND WHY?

I chose Unity because I had the most experience (professional and hobby) with it, and I find it the most sandboxy of the few larger engines that exist.

WHAT'S BEEN YOUR BIGGEST DEVELOPMENT HURDLE SO FAR?

The biggest hurdle would be marketing my game, it's very hard to get noticed. The next biggest hurdle is the desire to make the game more

than what I set it out to be? Scope creep is real, and especially when you are chasing good feedback.

ADVICE FOR FELLOW DEVS?

I really would start with smaller projects and FINISH Them. You should always thinkg about improving your skills

but not at the expense of not finishing a project. Solo gamedev requires a lot of skillsets and a tremendous amount

of time and energy to get into. If you're interested, start now!

You really should build what you know, but also if you care about money, you should research the genre you are

trying to create, and ask yourself, is there a market for your game? What does your game do better or different

than what's out or coming out? You're more so competing for peoples TIME than their MONEY.

ANY FINAL THOUGHTS?

I think most things have been covered. Thanks!
