PLEASE START US OFF BY INTRODUCING YOURSELF:

Hello! We are a team of five developers from Turkey making a game called Mystopia, and I'm İbrahim, the lead and the programmer. I've been working on game development for almost five years now, and this is our first commercial project.

TELL US ABOUT MYSTOPIA.

Mystopia is a relaxing sandbox game about building your own worlds and crafting magical potions. You open letters to discover blocks inspired by witchcraft, use potions for mystifying effects and build your dream worlds. Me and my friends have been working on different games for a while, and one day I was talking to my artist friend Simge and said I wanted to make a cozy sandbox game where you build your own little worlds, and we came up with "Project Little", the old project name of Mystopia. It was an art-heavy project, so we contacted Enis, a great artist who's been in the industry for over six years. Then we contacted a great game designer of mine, Ataberk, who designed a large part of the game. Finally, we got in touch with Mazhar, a great music composer friend of ours, who also did our trailer music.

HOW HAS THE DEVELOPMENT JOURNEY BEEN

It's been four months since we started developing Mystopia and it's going pretty well.

WHICH GAME ENGINE DID YOU CHOOSE AND WHY?

We're using the Unity game engine, mainly because I've been using it for years and it feels easy to use. It's easy to write editor scripts in it, which is something we do a lot of.

WHAT'S BEEN YOUR BIGGEST DEVELOPMENT HURDLE SO FAR?

We didn't find much time to work on the project in the first two months, but we caught up with our roadmap in the second half of our development. An honourable mention would be writing a good water shader. I'm *still* struggling with it, I can't make good water shaders in the orthographic camera hahaha.

ADVICE FOR FELLOW DEVS?

I'd say never give up. It's been a long journey personally, I've been trying to do a commercial project for almost two years now - but I think I've finally got it. I know it's hard to find the time and it might get boring to keep working on the same project, but I think it's so worth it. I'd also like to say to the people who are trying to get into the industry as programmers, make personal projects and please start simple but FINISH IT. Finishing your project, no matter how small it is, will take you a long way. It makes you a better programmer and it's also a huge confidence booster.

ANY FINAL THOUGHTS?

- Actually, we have just announced our demo date for Mystopia. It's coming on July 18th. I'd love to see you guys there, and I'd appreciate your wishlists

- İbrahim
