Hi! I'm Javi (aka Jotaauvei) from Purpure Studio, a two-person team based in northwest Spain. We made EVERING.


I do lots of stuff, from game design to writing, art, environments, directing and even marketing, while my partner Edgar does all the programing.


TELL US ABOUT EVERING.

EVERING is a JRPG with a turn-based combat system that tells an epic story through witty dialogue in a completely unique and very detailed world where time loops around in circles.


This is the story of Eldar, who is obsessed with finding the origin of a legend. He will soon realize that everything around him is connected and this will lead him to discover something he never imagined. He will be joined by Lue, a powerful and overprotective witch. On their path they will meet Jövla, a mysterious wanderer, Laric, an apprentice alchemist with very little self-esteem and Qibayn, an artist in constant search of inspiration. 


We wanted to make a game with our favorite things: Pixel graphics, charismatic characters, exploration and a deep story. The JRPG genre was just a perfect fit for all that.


HOW HAS THE DEVELOPMENT JOURNEY BEEN

It has been 4 years of hard work, dedication and sleepless nights. We've spent every little free time we had to work on our game, since this is not our main job (hopefully someday!).


WHICH GAME ENGINE DID YOU CHOOSE AND WHY?


EVERING is made in RPG Maker MV. I had a lot of experience with this engine from previous projects, so we had a head start there. We learned A LOT along the way, pushing this very limited engine to do what we needed it to do, one way or another.




WHAT'S BEEN YOUR BIGGEST DEVELOPMENT HURDLE SO FAR?

Marketing. There's nothing harder is game development than to show your project to the world. It's extremely difficult nowadays to reach people on a tight budget.


The engine and our limited free time were also big obstacles, but we managed to work around them.


ADVICE FOR FELLOW DEVS?

Start small, prove to yourself that you are capable of finishing it and keep going. Your work will be fuelled by your passion. 





ANY FINAL THOUGHTS?

Game developing is not easy, not in the slightest, but the personal fulfillment of seeing a dream come true is reward enough. Keep it up, rest assured that we will too!
