PLEASE START US OFF BY INTRODUCING YOURSELF:

Hello :) My name is Charles, I'm 33 yo based in Poland. I'm a developer with a pretty long history in backend development but also had many pet projects that involved IoT world and some frontend development.

I'm not a professional game developer, but I always liked the idea to create something that bring fun and joy. Also the challenges that comes with game developemnt are mostly way more entertaining than most of the projects I work on daily basis :P

TELL US ABOUT UNDERGROUND LORDS.

This will probably sounds trivial, but I just always liked games, especially rpg / action / and indie dungeon crawlers. The pixelart style is also something I enjoy as the best times I've spent on gamign was my childhood, and the games, back then, looked kinda pixelish.

HOW HAS THE DEVELOPMENT JOURNEY BEEN

WHICH GAME ENGINE DID YOU CHOOSE AND WHY?

Oh, first I've tried the Unity but found out about the Godot and fell in love in a seconds. Its open source, also with interpreted language (gdscript), you don't really need to think about the whole licences, which as an indie dev that work on his project in free time, I didn't really want to spent time and money on.

WHAT'S BEEN YOUR BIGGEST DEVELOPMENT HURDLE SO FAR?

For sure TIME. I'm not a teenage anymore and need to take care of my family, plus full time job... It's kinda hard to find a spare hour to just code a little bit, or even create art / sfx. Cannot afford to just leave my job to focus on game dev, but hopefully I'll be able continue my adventure with game dev :)

ADVICE FOR FELLOW DEVS?

Oh for sure! There are a few motivating things that worked for me:

- if you can work on your project with someone else, its easier to get motivated.

- plan upfront timeboxes in your callendar to spend on the project. Make it 2 or 3 times a week, 1-2h time boxes. Even if you are tired but manage to do some 15-30min work at most, you can still feel that you're progressing

- sometimes spending a few pennies on art / sfx / services can keep you motivated as you feel like you are investing not only your time, but also money.

The other advice I can give is just to not worry about failures. I've made a few apps and some of them had negative reviews. Don't try to create a perfect product.

ANY FINAL THOUGHTS?

Although I'm not very successful in game development (yet!, although there are some things I'm proud of! ) I hope someday I'll be able to monetize this wonderful hobby of mine, and provide the best life for my family, that they deserve. :)
