We are Soupmasters from Sweden, Göteborg. We are a indie game studio making Big Boy Boxing, a slapstick boss-rush game inspired by Cuphead + Punch-Out!! Martin (Me), does the design, directing and programming and Ludvig does the Art and Animations.



TELL US ABOUT BIG BOY BOXING.

Big Boy Boxing is an energetic Boss Rush game inspired by Punch-Out!!, featuring fluid gameplay, wacky comedy, special abilities, stylized hand-animated pixel art, and a retro banger soundtrack!



HOW HAS THE DEVELOPMENT JOURNEY BEEN

The idea goes back to the characters, we had a bunch of wacky characters that we wanted to bring alive, and we landed on making a "Punch-Out" inspired game because that had so much focus on a singular character at a time.


WHICH GAME ENGINE DID YOU CHOOSE AND WHY?


We chose Unity, and it has been very fun but also time consuming. Everything around actual gamedev has taken so much time like marketing, biz dev, legal, company and all that mumbo jumbo.


WHAT'S BEEN YOUR BIGGEST DEVELOPMENT HURDLE SO FAR?

Animations and consistency. We've changed artstyles of the game toooo many times, and we've spent so much on getting animations smooth and good looking, just to throw them away.


ADVICE FOR FELLOW DEVS?

Pick a artstyle and stick to it, or else your development timeline will easily get out of hands, months will turn to years.
