PLEASE START US OFF BY INTRODUCING YOURSELF:
My name is Nicolas. I've been a web and mobile developer for over 20 years, freelancing for the past three. I've always wanted to make video games, but this dream has only started to become a reality recently. :)
TELL US ABOUT ENOCH: CHILDREN OF FATE.
My game, Enoch: Children of Fate, is a classic point-and-click that blends narrative with puzzles. It tells the story of several characters aboard a space station housing the survivors of a catastrophe that nearly wiped out humanity. The story is a mix of sci-fi and noir. Originally, I started writing it as a novel with over 300 pages written, but then I realized it would make a great video game.
HOW HAS THE DEVELOPMENT JOURNEY BEEN
The most challenging part has been writing the story and structuring the puzzles. The development itself hasn't been too difficult for me due to my experience and because I chose to make things easier for myself.
WHICH GAME ENGINE DID YOU CHOOSE AND WHY?
I'm using Unity with the "Adventure Creator" add-on, which is fantastic, user-friendly, and very flexible if you want to go beyond the basics.
WHAT'S BEEN YOUR BIGGEST DEVELOPMENT HURDLE SO FAR?
As I mentioned in the previous question, not much. My game doesn't stand out with a unique gameplay that would require complicated development.
ADVICE FOR FELLOW DEVS?
If your goal is to develop your own game engine, go for it. But if your primary aim is to tell a story and development is getting in your way, don't reinvent the wheel. Use existing code or frameworks.
ANY FINAL THOUGHTS?
Thanks for reading and please wishlist Enoch on Steam!
