There’s a quote from Conan the Barbarian that stuck with me: “What is best in life?” For years I’ve asked myself the same. My answer now: finish what you start, strive for perfection, and create something that leaves a mark.

I’m Victor, founder of Prime Games. I spent 8 years in software, 4 of them in the enterprise world as a director in a 600‑person global company. We built software for HBO, eBay, NASDAQ, Verizon, and Comcast. It was a great experience - but I chose a different path. I realised I've lost something in the translation. So I called it quits.

Today I live in Plovdiv with my family, working on games I love. I grew up with Warcraft, Diablo, StarCraft, Dungeons & Dragons, and gamebooks. Age of Empires made me want to code back in 1998. Twenty years later, I’m finally following that dream.

TELL US ABOUT BLOOD SWORD.

I still remember holding book "The Battlepits of Krarth" in my hands for the first time. Four heroes. A deadly tournament. A world that felt more real than anything else around me. Blood Sword wasn’t just a gamebook series. It was a world.

As kids, we didn’t even know what a role‑playing game was, yet we’d gather in a gazebo, each of us taking a character - Warrior, Trickster, Enchanter, Sage. We read together, rolled dice, made choices, fought battles on tiny printed maps, and dreamed big.

Now I’m working on a digital adaptation of Blood Sword, the legendary five‑book epic by Dave Morris and Oliver Johnson. For many of us - especially in Eastern Europe - it was more than a book. It was a rite of passage.

My goal is to capture its essence:

Turn‑based, grid combat inspired by the original battle maps
Class‑based characters with unique roles and abilities
Branching narrative faithful to the books, enriched with dynamic systems and meaningful choices
A grounded visual atmosphere reflecting the grim world of Legend
A co‑op inspired design that makes a single‑player experience feel like a full party adventure

Why Blood Sword? Because it shaped me. Because it taught me about story structure, mechanics, and consequence. And because it deserves to live again, not just as a memory on a dusty shelf, but as an interactive RPG for a new generation.

HOW HAS THE DEVELOPMENT JOURNEY BEEN

This is a question I’m very passionate about. After 7 years in Unity, I made a big step and chose Godot.

Since November 2023, I’ve built and released 4 small games in Godot as proof of concept across Windows, Mac, Android, and iOS. My goal was to test whether this engine could become my full‑time home for the next 4–5 years.

WHICH GAME ENGINE DID YOU CHOOSE AND WHY?

What I discovered surprised me:

I can code with the latest .NET SDK in Godot, including using familiar NuGet packages

I mixed C# for data management and GDScript for presentation logic - an approach that worked flawlessly

Debugging is excellent and communication between C# and GDScript is seamless

UI development feels intuitive and powerful, with built‑in tweening and smooth transitions

Localization was a joy - the fastest I’ve ever set up in my career

Exporting to Mac and iOS was smooth, including Apple notarization

Over these projects, I gained enough confidence to commit. It’s was a scary decision, but I believe in Godot now.

WHAT'S BEEN YOUR BIGGEST DEVELOPMENT HURDLE SO FAR?

Finding the strength and focus to keep moving forward, step by step. I work from home while raising two toddlers, aged 2 and 4.5. It’s a huge challenge to be an actively involved father, watching my kids grow, while also getting meaningful work done. After four years of little sleep, I’m mentally depleted, and finding that balance has been the hardest part.

ADVICE FOR FELLOW DEVS?

This is a tough industry. Making a great game is not enough anymore. My advice: spend time on the business side. Think about your reach, your wishlists, and how the platform algorithms work. Learn what gets you into “New and Trending” or “Popular Upcoming.” Connect with successful indie devs, learn from their stories, and understand the survivorship bias - it doesn’t guarantee success, but it can save you from repeating mistakes.

Promote your game actively and don’t rely on luck. You need to reach your audience if you want your project to succeed.

ANY FINAL THOUGHTS?

I want to thank the Godot community for the warm welcome. Opening Godot each day genuinely makes me happy. It reignited my joy in building things, learning, and feeling technically fulfilled again. The engine is full of thoughtful details that continue to surprise me.

Make the games you love, because you’ll need passion to carry you through. But don’t ignore the numbers and the money - they are what will keep your business alive and your bills paid.
