We’re Sand Castles Studio, a little tiny studio based in Barcelona, Spain. It was founded by 3 all-time friends, although our team now consists of 8 members. Two programmers, two designers, three artists and one Social Media Manager. We developed Bread&Fred a few years ago and we are currently developing our second comercial game, Gnaughty Gnomes!
After releasing Bread & Fred and its DLC, it was time to start working on a new game. We had lots of ideas for a new project, but we finally decided to create a party game that followed our studio's philosophy and was easier to develop: games with friends that make you laugh and have a crazy vibe.
Our first game was about the rage caused by the cooperation between both players, and we wanted to change it for the second project, so now we are embracing absolute chaos and the rage caused by the competitiveness.
We have always worked with Unity as is the engine we are most comfortable with, and the development has been pretty smooth, the project was born last September so it only has like a year of development.
The most difficult part is balancing and making sure that all card combination work and the online network programming part.
It's very difficult to maintain the consistency and the motivation, specially in projects as long as game development requires. It's normal to begin hating what you are doing but you need to push through that and keep going. Playtest a lot, playtest with people who know nothing about your game, listen and pay attention to how they respond and act with your game.
Do the projects you want to play yourself, enjoy the process, have fun. Don't do any online projects, no multiplayer, it's horrible to develop.
